The Risk Management Committee presents...
For almost a year, ACEC Oregon and design professionals nervously awaited the opinion of the Oregon Supreme Court in the case of Harris v. Suniga. When the decision was recently handed down by the court, the nervousness proved to be justified. On Tuesday, June 10, the Risk Management Committee will present an informative breakfast panel discussion concerning how this important court decision impacts design professionals’ liability exposure. Attorneys Steve Day, Northwest Geotech, Inc.; Jon Larson, Marvin, Chorzempa & Larson P.C.; and Stan Austin, Miller Nash, LLP will explore the implications of the ruling for firms performing work in Oregon. The panel will also discuss current Washington law, ACEC’s efforts in the Harris case, and best practices for reducing risk. Click here for more information. Employees at all levels of state and local government have received training on the new law and its impact on historical business practices with, among others, private sector consultants. The law includes significant limits on gift giving, meals, and travel between persons who have a "legislative or administrative interest" before a public body. Since ACEC members are seeking work or are currently working with state or local governments it is important that you understand these rules and comply with them.
