Engineering Excellence

WHAT IS ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE?
The Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value. The EEA program was created by ACEC to increase the public's perception of what engineers REALLY DO. The public relations and marketing value of your firm's participation in the ACEC Oregon and ACEC National Engineering Excellence Awards program is outstanding.

For more than 45 years, engineering firms have entered their most innovative projects and studies in competitions conducted by state member organizations (MOs). After participating in the ACEC Oregon EEA program, firms are then eligible to participate in the ACEC National competition.

A distinguished panel of judges is convened to select the best engineering projects based on criteria such as uniqueness and/or innovative application of new or existing techniques; future value to the engineering profession and enhanced public awareness/enthusiasm of the role of engineering; social, economic and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owner's needs, including schedule and budget.

Judges spend a day evaluating and discussing the projects before selecting the Project of the Year, Best in Category Awards (only if 5 or more entries in a category AND at the judges’ discretion), Grand Award and Honor Award winners. There is also a Small Project Award (for projects with a Total Project Construction Budget of $3 million or less).

Additionally, a People’s Choice Award will be awarded based on which display panel is voted the favorite by those in attendance at the Engineering Excellence Awards dinner/

Entrants into the ACEC Oregon EEA competition may advance to ACEC National's design competition in Washington, D.C.
