The Leadership Development series wraps up with a discussion of what you’ve learned as emerging leaders over the last year and your challenges ahead. Joining us are three senior leaders who will share their experience and insights on what they’ve learned about being a successful leader in the AEC industry. Facilitated by ACEC consultant Leo MacLeod, come with your questions for a thought-provoking conversation.
ABOUT THE SENIOR LEADERS
Art Pearce, City of Portland Bureau of Transportation, Director of Policy, Planning and Projects, is an experienced urban innovator with an extensive background in broad public-private collaborations utilizing transportation investment and mobility innovations to shape the future of cities. Art has worked for the Portland Bureau of Transportation since 1998, serving on the bureau’s executive leadership team as Policy, Planning and Projects Group Director since 2014. He currently oversees the Transportation Planning, Capital Delivery and Active Transportation and Safety Programs Divisions, which employ about 90 staff including a management team of 15.
Julie Jensen, SPHR, Founder & Principal, Moxie HR Strategies, has nearly 20 years of experience as a dynamic and transformational Human Resources executive in small to large public and private sector organizations. She has a proven track record as an influential change agent and collaborate business partner,-and has a solid reputation for building resilient and high performing teams, engaging stakeholders and rapidly executing comprehensive human capital strategies. She is passionate about fostering healthy organizational culture where employees of all levels have opportunities to do their best work and grow their career. Prior to starting Moxie HR Strategies, Julie was the Human Resources Director at Otak.
Mel Sears, PE, PMP, Western Region Growth Officer, Senior Vice President, HNTB, brings nearly 35 years of experience in organizational leadership, regional management, operations management, business development, as well as project management experience on west coast transportation programs and projects in both the public and private sector. He has worked across various markets, including highways, transit, water, architecture, and environmental. Mel has worked with clients such as Caltrans, TriMet, Washington State Department of Transportation, Oregon Department of Transportation and Sound Transit.

He is a columnist for the Daily Journal of Commerce and Zweig White Letter. He speaks nationally on leadership development and emotional intelligence and makes a mean pie.
