From Doer to Leader: Lessons Learned  
The Leadership Development (LD) series* culminates with a lively and candid session, featuring stories and insights from senior leaders on how to transition from doer to leader.
*One does not need to be a series registrant to attend. Each part of the series is a stand-alone program, though they do complement one another. 

This facilitated session gives participants a chance to ask industry leaders questions concerning industry, practices and management.

It includes a review of key takeaways from past classes, and group problem solving and sharing strategies.


ABOUT THE SENIOR LEADERS
Rich Mitchell, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, President | Architect, Mackenzie, is an architect with 35 year of experience that includes 11 years as president of Mackenzie, an integrated design firm. Rich is passionate about helping leaders navigate the challenges in the design and construction industry. He shares his knowledge and expertise serving the community as former Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Green Building Initiative, and presently adjunct professor at NewSchool of Architecture and Design. 


Tova Peltz, PE, GE, RG, CEG, Project Delivery Manager, Oregon Department of Transportation - Region 1, has more than 20 years of experience as a dynamic leader, geotechnical engineer, engineering geologist, project manager, and program manager, with experience working in both the public and private sectors. As ODOT’s Region 1 Project Delivery Manager she is responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing ODOT’s capital program in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Hood River Counties, at a total present value of about $800M. Tova is committed to growing the profession of engineering--chairing the annual Engineers Week High School Program and championing In4All’s STEM Connect and National Engineers Month programs at ODOT. Tova received her BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her MS from the University of California at Berkeley. Tova was named a Woman of Vision by the Daily Journal of Commerce in 2018. 

Mike Baker, PE, Vice President & Senior Program Manager, David Evans and Associates, Inc. / Aitken Leadership Group, 
is an adjunct faculty member for ACEC’s Senior Executive Institute (SEI) program and ACEC faculty member for similar early career professional leadership programs in other states. He is a 28-year professional, former active duty military officer, Vice President and senior program manager at David Evans and Associates, Inc. where he’s practiced for the last 22 years, and an affiliate of the Aitken Leadership Group that specializes in leadership development and coaching. Mike has developed and led in-house leadership and personal mastery programs for nearly 16 years and delivered leadership sessions for hundreds of industry professionals, with a particular passion for engaging early career professionals. He has also designed and delivered team chartering and partnering sessions to support major infrastructure project delivery.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Leo MacLeod | Training | Coaching | Pie has been helping AEC firms with planning, training, and leadership transition for eighteen years, with a focus on developing the next generation of leaders. He is a columnist for the Daily Journal of Commerce and Zweig White Letter. He speaks nationally on leadership development and emotional intelligence and makes a mean pie.
