Planner Intern
What We Are Seeking
HHPR is seeking a Planning Intern to work on active current and long-range planning projects in our Portland, Oregon office. This part-time position will provide support to our team of project managers, land use planners, and design professionals on a wide range of planning projects, including permitting and land use approvals, site and zoning research, and zoning code updates. Strong organizational, research, writing, analytical and communication skills are essential.
The ideal candidate should be actively engaged in or have completed a collegiate or post-graduate degree program in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Geography, or a related field. Candidate should be able to conduct research and assist with other tasks associated with development review applications and other land use matters. Intern must have ability to examine, organize and analyze data as well as manage time effectively while working on several projects. Interns directly participate on public, private, and institutional development projects and play a meaningful role on an interdisciplinary team and participate with senior staff.

Requirements Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparation and monitoring of project schedule, and follow-up with appropriate agencies and project personnel.
  • Read and interpret zoning, building, transportation, environmental/natural resource codes and laws.
  • Prepare GIS maps and provide other GIS-related assistance to staff.
  • Research regulations and compile data and maps on a variety of planning issues.
  • Communicate effectively with city and county officials, clients, and co-workers.
  • Assist with coordination and delivery of project materials and special reports.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • Completed at least one year of study at an accredited college in urban planning or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A team player with the ability to work under the direction of team leaders and project managers.
  • Able to maintain agility within a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel programs
  • Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD and Sketch-up are desirable.
