Introduction The American Council of Engineering Companies of Alaska, Oregon, and Washington present the 2026 Annual Salary and Benefits Survey results. This year’s survey includes responses from 117 firms across the three states, representing 10,382 employees: 504 positions in Alaska, 3,585 in Oregon, and 6,293 in Washington.
Of the participating firms, nine provided salary data only, six provided benefit data only, and 100 provided salary data and completed the online survey. Additionally, two participants started the online survey, but did not complete the submissions process. Not every question was answered by every participating firm.
This report helps firm leaders, managers, and human resources directors compare their firms’ historical salaries with industry salary data across Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. Benchmark salary data is organized into eight job families: Engineers; Scientists and Planners; Professional Land Surveyors; Technicians; Administrative positions; Management; Marketing/Public Relations positions; and IT Systems positions. Engineer and Scientist/Planner classifications use ASCE performance-based grade descriptions 1 through 8; Marketing/Public Relations positions follow SMPS job descriptions. The survey captured actual employee pay by matched job, along with incentive bonuses by reported position. This level of detail strengthens the accuracy and reliability of the reported statistics. Incentive bonuses were used only for the Bonus Plan Practices percentages on page 8 and are not included in the salary tables. Salary tables show the 25th percentile, 50th percentile (median), 75th percentile, and average to provide perspective on both the average and the underlying data distribution.
A comprehensive Employee Benefits section appears before the salary data and covers benefit plans, employment practices, plan costs, and cost-saving strategies reported by firms in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. |
